Innovative Innovation – Adobe Kickbox

PEOPLE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN INNOVATION

An exciting example of this is the Adobe Kickbox showing how companies can turn their employees into innovators while enjoying themselves: The basic idea „Build innovators, not just innovations“. Imagine a small, red box with everything an employee needs to develop and test a new idea. The box is closed with the seal: “Pull in Case of Idea!“ Adobe has provided all employees with a physical toolkit, the Kickbox, enabling each individual to start its own innovation process. In the box, there are not only many tools, including the Bad Idea Book as well as chocolate and caffeine, but also a credit card with a USD 1,000 credit to develop the idea. The method enables every employee to take an active role in the company’s innovation process. Everyone has the chance to prove that their idea is extremely valuable to the company.

Adobe thus manages to actively change the innovation mindset for all employees. Innovation becomes a part of the corporate culture.

And it fits perfectly with Adobe’s approach and the brand statement „Make it an Experience.“ The Toolbox is available to support this process – Long story short: Adobe created Innovation out of theBox.

EASY TO USE – EASY TO SCALE

The idea behind the Kickbox program is a global network of practitioners and entrepreneurs shaping innovation, gaining knowledge along the way and being able to share this know-how with the community. Due to the open-source network, open collaboration is enabled as well as the opportunity to keep improving not only one’s company but also the Kickbox itself by utilizing the insight of thousands of projects by hundreds of companies. Kickbox is one of the world’s most popular enterprise innovation frameworks, used by thousands of (non-profit)-organizations from multi-nationals (MasterCard, Swisscom, P&G) to educational institutions (ETH, UNSW, USC) or government agencies (DARPA, United Nations).

COLLABORATIVE GLOBAL WORKING TOOL

Originally planned for internal use at Adobe, it was then open sourced in 2015. The Swiss leading IT- and Telco corporation Swisscom shaped it furthermore, wrote the powerful Kickbook, and now helps supporting companies in implementing this Kickbox program.
